Horsfall-Turner Essay Prize

Some years ago, the Horsfall Turner family made a generous bequest to the predecessor
of the Section, which we have used to encourage the interest of young lawyers in
European Law.

In 2002, the Law Society’s European Group (LSEG) decided to use the bequest to fund
an annual essay competition. Following the transfer of the activities of the LSEG to the
Law Society at the start of 2009, the essay competition is now being run by the Competition Section.
It is open to trainee solicitors and paralegals/stagiaires working at law firms which
have an office in the UK. First prize is a cheque for £1,000, which will be presented at
the Annual Dinner in November. The winning essay may also be published by the Section.

The closing date for the 2011 prize has now passed. The essay title for the 2012 competition will be announced in Autumn 2012
